AHEC Outcomes

Clinical Training

Between July 1, 2016 and June 30, 2017, the Connecticut AHEC Network supported 353 health professions students in interprofessional clinical rotations in primarily underserved communities. These students were placed in 579 rotations.


Health Careers Recruitment

Recruiting under-represented minority students into the health careers is the single largest activity of the Connecticut AHEC Network. Between July 1, 2016 and June 30, 2017, 6,307 students in grades 9-16 participated in an AHEC sponsored program, including 909 students who took part in over 40 hours of programming. In addition, 868 K-8 students participated in Connecticut AHEC programming.


Between July 1, 2016 and June 30, 2017, 5,707 web learners used Connecticut AHEC's Health Occupations and Technology (H.O.T.) Guide, a resource for middle and high school students, academic and career counselors, teachers, school-to-career coordinators and adult learners. The H.O.T. Guide ( is a comprehensive guide to the health and biotechnology careers for which there is an educational program offered in Connecticut.


Continuing Education

Connecticut AHEC continuing education programs are provided in collaboration with a wide variety of internal and external partners. Between July 1, 2016 and June 30, 2017, the AHEC Program sponsored or co-sponsored over 33 continuing education offerings totaling 165 sessions with a total of 1,330 participants attending. Topics included:

• Health Promotion and Disease Prevention

• Interdisciplinary Training

• Mental Health

• Primary Care

• Public Health Policy Development

• Skills-based Training


Consumer Education

Between July 1, 2016 and June 30, 2017, Connecticut AHEC provided health education to 10,093 community members on topics including asthma; alcohol, tobacco and other substances; behavioral/mental health; diabetes; elder health; health literacy; nutrition; oral health; and more.
